“Tara Ka Barangay” - Celebrating Pride of Barangay & Place

Posted by admin under: .:Headlines:.

Barangay Laging Handa will lead the celebration of  the 70th Foundation Day of Quezon City (October 12) with its own barangay-based programs with six other barangays in QC Area 19 as its contribution to the calendar of activities planned by Quezon City.

In relation, there will be fun-filled activities held from October 8 to 12 like:

  • Foodfest (10/8 - 10/12)
  • Larolympics - Sports & Values Education (10/3 - 8 to 12noon)
  • Amazing Race (10/11) - SK
  • Community Health and Wellness c/o Salinas Foods Inc.  (10/8 - 10/12)
Salinas (maker of Fidel iodized salt) will mount a special program on October 10 for the residents of Area 19: values education, exercises (tai-chi, aerobics), and serving health breakfast from 6 to 8:30 in the morning in its headquarters- complex.
  • Tree-planting
  • Alliance Building         The Barangay Laging Handa Council, together with the Barangay Laging Handa Community Alliance, Inc. (undergoing incorporation as a non-stock and non-profit corporation) will tender a luncheon at Max’s Restaurant (the first Max’s and the first business establishment of BLH in 1948) along Scout Tuason (now the subject of a road-widening project of QC) on October 10.

BLH will invite the Mayor of Quezon City (Mayor Sonny Belmonte) and other key QC officials for a pulong-bayan meeting with the rest of the six other Barangay Councils of Area 19.

Other key members of the different sectors will also be invited together with the residents in mapping out the road map for the future redevelopment of Area 19.

Mayor Belmonte will be invited to reiterate his vision for Quezon City.

Another keynote speaker, Aurelio Montinola III will be invited to underscore the role of microfinance in catalyzing micro-enterprise development (in line with the Barangay Micro-Enterprises Law and its objectives). He will also introduce the new institution which will serve as the platform for a public-private sector-civil society alliance to provide access to opportunities to achieve a better quality of life for individuals and communities.

  • Governance (October 8-12)

The Barangay Laging Handa complex along Scout Gandia will be open house throughout October 8-12 in parlaying its services for the residents and other sectors while informing them more adequately of its past and future services.

The call will be for the continuing volunteerism of the residents in offering their special skills (doctors, lawyers, artists, and the lot) for barangay projects and for the alleviation of the disadvantaged.

Special activities covering the environment will be mounted: the holding of a waste market, seminars on solid waste management and other ancillary concerns.

Barangay Laging Handa will align itself with the REHABILITATE MANILA BAY movement and the 10 MM signature campaign for the environment.

The Anti-Dengue Campaign

Posted by admin under: .:Headlines:.

The barangay council is appealing for your cooperation in conducting a barangay-wide testing for the density of mosquitos, especially those possibly carrying Dengue. This is in line with the ongoing fumigation project and due to the rise in dengue cases in Quezon City with three (3) reported from our community. Kindly do your part by emptying stagnant water from old tires, trash cans, flower pots, etc.

During the week of Feb. 10-15, we encourage each household to have 1-2 PET bottles (e.g. 1.5L soda bottles) or any wide container cut with a wide surface. Come to the barangay to register your test container/s and have it wrapped with black plastic. We will be happy to provide you with lawanit to put in the container in a slanted fashion. The following week of Feb. 16-20 — on all five days — the container must be 2/3 filled with water and left exposed in an open space at your respective residences. Finally, from Feb.21-22, they shall be collected from your homes or you may bring them to the barangay for observation and collective diagnosis. Thanks for your attention!
